Description |
Thin brass builder's plate from a Navy 45 Picket Boat, Mark 5 built at Blanchard Boat Company, March 1953. Mounting holes drilled in four corners of plate. Donor found the plate on a beach in South Vietnam while he was there in 1974 while stopped for repairs to his boat. He took it home to England and kept it until offering it to Puget Sound Maritime in 2014. There was no evidence of a shipwreck or abandoned boat immediately nearby but he assumed the ship was sitting in ruin somewhere close. Plate reads "45 PICKET BOAT, MARK 5 / BUILT FOR THE UNITED STATES NAVY / REGISTRY NUMBER C7329 / BUILT - MARCH 1953 - BY THE / BLANCHARD BOAT CO., INC. / SEATTLE, WA / BU. PLAN NO. S8203(6)45 - 1170389" |
