Description |
Scale model of Tregoning lifeboat with oars and emergency outfit. Note from the donor states: "This is a scale model of a life boat that was made in 1926 or 1927 for Mr. Con. Campion, who was the Shipping Master for the Admiral Line. Mr Campion also operated the Seattle Life Boat School, where young men going to sea were taught the names of the various parts of the boat and the gear. They were also instructed in launching, rowing, hoisting life boats, and in how to use life jackets. This school was located at the Admiral Line Terminal, foot of Massachusetts Street, Seattle. The boat davits are exact scale models of davits, and were also used to teach men how to handle the launching of life boats from a vessel's deck. The model was built by the Tregonning Boat Company, Seattle, and cost $150.00. It was fully equipped at one time, but there is some gear missing -- sails, hatchet, lantern, ditty bag, compass, can of flares, match box and sea anchor." For training davits, see PS1075.1. |
