Description |
Ships forecastle bell from wreck of SS ADMIRAL SAMPSON. Bronze/brass, no bell hanger, engraved lettering. In 1914 ADMIRAL SAMPSON sank in a collision with the SS PRINCESS VICTORIA 20 miles NW of Seattle. Recovered from the wreck by dragging, probably prior to 1920. The bell was cracked during recovery and subsquently repaired. The engraved name of vessel and date built were partially obliterated. The clapper is corroded, and there is evidence of brazed repairs. |
